THE Dorothée club is almost synonymous with childhood for all those born in the 80s. A program produced by AB Productions and presented by 5 animators: Dorothée, Corbier, Jacky, Ariane and Patrick, it offered us cartoons which are still today mythical.
The Dorothée Club stopped after 10 years of existence, having to face numerous criticisms of the programs broadcast. The CSA will even go so far as to ban certain Club Dorothée cartoons, deemed too violent.
No matter what happened, we were fans, and a little top 10 cartoons from Club Dorothée can only do us good… Let’s go!
10. Albator
We all remember the credits and its lyrics. Albator was created by Leiji Matsumoto in 1969. We mainly know him thanks to the two series “Albator, the space corsair” and Albator 84.
Everything happens between the years 2964 and 2977. The most famous scarred person in cartoons will have to face, with his famous ships Death Shadow and then Arcadia, numerous threats from space.
9. Ken the Survivor
Ken the Survivor is a character created by Tetsuo Hara in 1983. This shonen has exceeded the mark of 100 million copies sold, making it one of the most published mangas in the world.
Note that the cartoon should return in 2018… To be continued.
The story is set in our current times. The earth was almost destroyed by nuclear war. Ken is a master of martial arts, and will have to brave many dangers to help the people of his village.
8. The Mysterious Cities of Gold
The Mysterious Cities of Gold was broadcast for the first time in 1983. We all remember the song “Esteban child of the sun” and the journeys that the 3 child “stars” of the cartoon will experience.
The story takes place in the 16th century, the time of the Spanish conquistadors. We follow the journey of Esteban, a young orphaned Spaniard, who along his way meets Zia, a young Inca, and Tao, a descendant of the empire of Mu. Together,
they will see their destiny linked with the Inca cities of gold.
7. Inspector Gadget
“Gogo who goes there, inspector gadget” this song, who doesn’t know it? Atypical, this character marked an entire generation. A clumsy investigator, who despite himself discovers the diabolical plans drawn up by Doctor Gang, Inspector Gadget can trust Sophie, his niece, as well as Finot, his dog.
Created in 18983, this cartoon is a partly French co-production! Created by Bruno Bianchi, Andy Heyward and Jean Chalopin, the inspector has spanned all eras, to the point of having several films to his name.
Only one question still remains unanswered today. Who is Doctor Gang?
6. Sailor Moon
The cartoon Club Dorothée Sailor Moon was created by Naoko Takeuchi in 1992. We will follow through several arcs, the life of Usagi Tsukino, who happens to be a young girl with magical powers, called Sailor Moon.
Throughout her adventures, she will be accompanied by other young girls, who also possess magical powers linked to the planets of the solar system.
The story dates back to 10,000 years BCE, when an evil entity destroyed all beings on Earth. Only Quenne Serenity will be able to stop the evil. 10,000 years later, Metallia reappears and only the Sailors can save Earth from this terrible danger.
The little extra of this manga? The arrival each time, at the right time, of Tuxedo Mask. Do you remember it?
5. Nicky Larson
Nicky Larson was created in 1987, and broadcast in Club Dorothée from 1990. This anime is the adaptation of the manga City Hunter.
The story? After the death of his friend Tony Marconi, Nicky Larson will meet Laura Marconi, his sister. Between them, they will avenge Tony’s death. This cartoon reveals one investigation per episode and we discover the past of the main characters as we go along.
Special feature of Nicky Larson? He is a real womanizer, who nevertheless is in love with Laura, and vice versa.
This character is particularly recognizable thanks to his 357 Magnum, Eric’s pride.
4. Goldorak
Grendizer, if you don’t know, means “UFO robot”. Created by Toei Animation in 1975, this cartoon appeared in France at the end of the 1970s.
What’s the story? You will follow the adventures of Actarus, prince of Euphor, a planet colonized by Vega, an evil empire. Actarus will escape death thanks to the Grendizer, a ship that can travel in space. He will find refuge on Earth and will have to face Vega, determined to also destroy the Earth.
3. Olive and Tom
Also called Captain Tsubasa, Olive and Tom was created in 1983. This Club Dorothée cartoon will make us follow the adventures of Olivier Atton, a true football fan, who wants to become a professional footballer at all costs.
Olive, as she is nicknamed, will meet many footballers on her way, including Thomas Price, a talented goalkeeper, and Mark Landers, her “enemy” since day one.
we all remember the crazy races on the football field, which sometimes lasted an entire episode, the balls deformed by the strikes, the Derrick brothers and their infernal catapult, or even the shooting of the leaf, the tiger and the eagle.
Rather Newteam or Muppet? Please note that TF1, for the 2018 World Cup, will replay the entire series. Time to rediscover your inner child! Want to see exceptional (and real) shots? Meet for the top 10 goals of Neymar!
2. The Knights of the Zodiac
Knights of the Zodiac is a Shonen created in 1986. In its original version, this cartoon is called “Saint Seiya”. We follow the adventures of Seiya, a boy who has the Pegasus armor, and who will face many dangers during his adventures, while progressing towards the golden knights.
This series was a real hit around the world, with more than 34 million copies sold.
What makes it strong? Its numerous battles, the richness of the story and the characters, and the evolution of the hero, who we gradually see getting closer to the very best knights.
Remember that these knights are classified into 3 categories: bronze, silver and gold.
1. Dragon Ball Z
We arrive at our Top 1! Dragon Ball AND Dragon Ball Z, since both have moved to Club Dorothée, part Z being the sequel to Dragon Ball, just as the “Super” part (currently in broadcast) is the sequel to Z.
We loved following the adventures of Sanguko, who had to face threats each stronger than the last. We will mainly remember the Red Ribbon, The Saiyan Menace, Frieza, Cell and Boo.
Our most memorable episode? As for many I think, the transformation of Sangohan into Super Saiyan 2, against Cell.
Please note that this Club Dorothée cartoon was widely criticized by the CSA and parents’ associations for its violence to the point of disappearing from the channel’s programs… When it was broadcast, Dragon Ball Z had a share of more than 40%. market, double Koh Lanta…A real gem!
