Joël Mc Crea, Randolf Scott, Gary Cooper and many others…and John Wayne, the man who (it seems, spent more time on horseback than with his feet on the ground). Who didn’t dream, as a child, of playing cowboys and Indians on the immense plains of Texas and where whiskey flowed freely in the saloons…so everyone on horseback and galloping…it’s gone for the TOP 10.
1. Rio Bravo
John Wayne and Dean Martin in the role of a sheriff, an extraordinary duo in this great film not to be missed.
2. And for a few dollars more
Change of cinematographic era and welcome to spaghetti westerns (to be consumed without moderation). A role tailor-made for the irreplaceable Clint Eastwood, without forgetting the music of Ennio Morricone. A great TOP 2.
3. The prisoner of the desert
A great western that brings together John Wayne and Nathalie Wood and perhaps John Ford’s best film which dates from 1956. A must see.
4. The man who killed Liberty Valance
It’s not easy to bring together two cinema monsters James Stewart and John Wayne, without forgetting Lee Marvin in a very well played character. A story where reflection is required.
5. Merciless
Very beautiful production by Clint Eastwood where he revises his dusty outfit to avenge a disfigured prostitute. Ah!!! It’s good to see a cowboy determined to see his revenge through to the end.
6. The wild horde
In 1969 Sam Peckingpah signed this great film. At that time the TGV did not exist and fortunately because the Railway Company posed a lot of problems…but be careful the defenders are coming.
7. Once upon a time in the west
The steel blue eyes of Henry Fonda, the beauty of Claudia Cardinale, the charisma of Charles Bronson and others…including Woody Strodde (the black sergeant). Sergio Leone whose direction is perfect, Ennio Morricone whose music is unforgettable, a good script, a great TOP 7.
8. Butch Cassidy and the Kid
A classic which in 1969 brought together Paul Newman and Robert Redford in the roles of bandits whose “true” story everyone knows.
9. The Seven Mercenaries
Then !!! What movie !!! even if it has aged a little, it is still an immense pleasure to see these 6 great actors masterfully led by a straight Yul Brynner. Subsequently, we should not do a remake (the soul of “these” actors is no longer there). To watch again and again…
10. For a Fistful of Dollars
Everyone at the table, in this TOP 10 we have spaghetti (with great pleasure). Small town in the Far West, two families who hate each other, gold, a pretty girl, all the ingredients for a good recipe…and along comes the lone rider, poncho on his shoulders and cigar at the corners of his lips, Clint Eastwood in his first major role. Film shot by Sergio Leone with music…by Ennio Morricone.
