Discover our top swimming pool security system
Do you have an in-ground swimming pool? You are required to have one of the 4 devices below. Do you have a semi-buried, above-ground swimming pool? The law is less strict, but your children’s lives are more important than a text. Above ground, semi-buried, buried, even combat, guarantee the safety of your loved ones.
The swimming pool alarm: the most economical system
We attack our top swimming pool security system with the first device: the alarm. You should know that there are two main categories of swimming pool alarms:
- Submerged alarms. As its name suggests, the alarm is placed partly in the water, and is triggered when you fall into the pool. All standard alarms must be triggered with a weight of at least 6 kg. Please note, this type of alarm will only sound when the child is in the water. So whatever happens, you have to stay very close to the swimming pool and your little ones.
- Infrared alarms. They are to be installed around your swimming pool. Their goal? Sound as soon as a person crosses their infrared barrier. This safety feature gives you more time than the submerged alarm to react.
Whether for a submerged or infrared alarm, check that the product complies with standard NF P 90-307.
Swimming pool barriers. Effective but impractical?
This system, aimed at completely blocking access to the swimming pool, must respect a minimum height of 1.10 m. The barrier must also be completely locked and the lock not accessible to a child. Finally, if you choose this system, allow a significant space between the pool and your barrier. You will thus be able to move freely, and guarantee the aesthetics of your swimming pool area.
Remember to check that your barrier system complies with standard NF P 90-306
Cover your swimming pool, yes but how?
Do you already have a tarpaulin and think it’s enough? On the contrary, if it is flexible, the risk of drowning is even greater if your child falls into the water. When we talk about a swimming pool cover, we are talking about a rigid cover. This device must be able to support the weight of a man, generally up to 100 kgs.
This is the most expensive system, but it is also the safest (when you are not next to the pool)
and the most aesthetic. Small bonus: this device also allows you to maintain the temperature of your swimming pool, and protect the water from external inconveniences.
Please note: your barrier must comply with standard NF P 90-306
The swimming pool shelter, 2 in 1 device
The swimming pool enclosure is expensive. But it has several arguments that could affect you:
- 1. First of all, it is one of the 4 devices approved in France. If it is correctly closed, no child will be able to access the pool. Safety level: 10/10.
- 2. Then, the shelter allows you to heat your swimming pool. Do you want to swim in spring or autumn? With shelter, it’s entirely possible.
- 3. It’s eco-friendly! At least for the “I heat my pool to enjoy it” part. The heat will be kept in your closed space.
To be compliant, your shelter must be certified to the NF P 90-309 standard.
Good to know: if you are ever stopped and you do not have one of these 4 devices, you will incur a fine of up to €45,000. You also take the risk that one day, a child will fall into your pool without being warned…
